Phone-head

Really I don't think of myself as a phone-head. I don't sit staring at YouTube videos everywhere I go. But last night when I went to charge my phone, it wouldn't take a charge. Oh dreaded moment. The battery had reached its battery life end. To be honest, I'd been thinking it was high time I updated my phone. But to suddenly have no phone at all???

Back when I first moved to the rural Northern California coast, five years ago, I had no reception, no texting capabilities and no way to make phone calls, even after I upgraded the router. It was scary having no ability to call or text when I was about the start a new job at a new school, not to mention reaching my kids and myriad others related to living in a new place.

I bought an updated Pixel phone which worked beautifully with my Google-Fi service and I was ecstatic, making and receiving calls, texting… But then I dropped it in a toilet at work. Brilliant! I ended up purchasing a refurbished Pixel 3a and have been happy with it. But yesterday the battery went dead.

I’ve ordered a new Pixel, a 9a – very extravagant for me – but for two days or so I’ll have no phone! Ahhhh! Nerdy confession: the main things I’ll miss (other than calling, texting and alarm) are listening to Audible books on my drive to and from work and playing Woodoku and Waffle when I get home.

How about you? Do you want to confess what you miss most if without a phone? Leave a comment!
