Excerpt from the upcoming Book 4 of the Braided Dimensions series. Draft title: Pasts Undone
He tapped softly on my mind, asking to share things hard to say.
Every red flag rose in me, yet I wanted to hear his thoughts. Ylva was standing guard, in case he started to manipulate me. I had some training but the subtle could numb you before jabbing.
Instead of giving me thoughts, he moved his mouth onto mine.
I was only partially taken by surprise, and not a passive participant.

He broke away first. “I’m sorry. That wasn’t what I meant to do. I’m confused.”
“And lonely?” The words came out without planning.
He scratched the back of his neck, grinning. “Well, yea', now that ye mention it.”
I backed a step to the doorway, heart racing, and leaned against the jamb. “We have a strange history. A checkered one.”
“Checkered. I donna recall this term.”
“A mix. Good and bad. Like a game board.”
“Ah. True.” His eyes searched my face.
