Bohemian Dream

I dreamed of a Bohemian man in a city loft apartment, with sons. There’s a housekeeper. Downstairs are all-night places that provide meals.

Occasionally i collage a dream. I often choose a dream that I’d like to expand on, the image, an idea, the meaning in my life. More than a decade ago, I created one of my favorites that I call “Renaissance Woods" (you can see it and read about it at my Depth Psychology page}. The man in the dream I considered my renaissance man. An Englishman and my lover, he complained that we weren't doing enough that was creative. I was in the midst of a PhD program, toward the end of writing my dissertation. That dream (and dream man) came as an important message to me. I've never seen more clearly an inner part of me, a companion self.

Bohemian is an interesting term and is one of the main reasons I chose to collage this dream I had a year ago. Bohemian is used a lot of different ways. I think it may be an expression we all need to define in our own personal way. I looked it up online to see what kinds of images might pop up. Clicking on a Pinterest set, I felt a bit shocked and bereaved. The way the term is used for marketing interior decor is so far from the ways I embrace the word.

Someone Bohemian goes his or her own way. What does it mean to dress Bohemian. A tad hippy would be how a lot of people think of it these days, some Indian prints, unique style. I happen to associate rich textures, deep colors, and authenticity. A Bohemian home probably has an eclectic music aesthetic, many books, things collected thoughtfully or whimsically. It might mean a way of raising your kids, respecting how they think and their individuality.

Do you define Bohemian differently from this? Leave a comment if you wish!
