A Year of Relaunching

I’m learning a lot this year about the shape of my writing journey. What I like about the view from where I’m standing is I get to see how far I’ve come, knowing I couldn’t get here without the long climb. There is no short cut and I’m better for that. Like getting fit, the tenacity, persistence and sheer longevity work their own magic while the writer is hopefully having a lot of fun along the way (I am!).

I’ve scheduled relaunches every two months throughout this year for the five books I’ve written already, getting new cover art designed, editing, collaborating on trailers and the eye-opening job of working with narrators to produce audio books. This is giving me the opportunity to remedy flaws, polish, and try ideas that have been on my mind like converting first person to third person. I hope this allows others to see that publishing your first book is such a small part of the long haul.

The best discovery in this process (and there have been other great ones) happened this past week. I had taken out the final third of Book 3 in the Braided Dimensions series on a spur of the moment decision. I’ve been torn about it ever since. With the relaunching, I pulled out the final edit that was still in its original entirety, almost accidentally. I’ve run through it with my editor. It’s a thumbs-up. In my soul, I always knew it needed the integrity of what I first created. My original book has come home. It relaunches June 5.

  2. I love your writing Marie, and what I’ve seen of new cover art. Bob just finished Elf Stone and loved it. Miss making music with you.
